About Me
Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit FASD Support and Understanding. I'm Jessie, a single mom, to one amazing six year old boy. I adopted Sylas K as an infant. I brought that little bundle of joy home from the hospital at three days old. He has now grown into an adorable, funny, energetic and loving boy.
When Sylas K was about 18 months old I began to have some concerns about his development. He seemed to struggle with sensory overload, had difficulties with impulse control, quit sleeping and never stopped moving. For months we visited various doctors and therapists. All the while my biggest concern was keeping him safe while these doctors attempted to figure out what was going on with my sweet boy.
It took several years before we got an appropriate diagnosis of FASD. We gathered up several additional diagnosis' along the way as well. I like to joke that we swim in alphabet soup around here. FASD, ADHD, Sensory Integration Disfunction and ODD to name a few.
In our community there was very little information available about FASD and even less support. I felt like I was fighting this battle on my own. In an effort to educate myself on everything FASD related I dove head first into the University of Google. I've been fortunate to meet so many great people as I've looked for information and help for my son and I.
Every day is challenging as we navigate the world of FASD but I've found that having others that understand helps tremendously. I hope that this website will help each of you find support and understanding as you journey as well. FASD may be difficult but we never have to be alone. There are people that understand what you are going through. I'm honored to be one of them.
Jessie
